Police have tonight arrested and charged a man with murder in the violent death of Te Atatu woman Cun Xiu Tian.
The 19-year-old, also from Te Atatu, faces two charges of sexual violation as well as the murder charge.
Ms Tian, 69, was found dead in her home on Glenvill Ln in the Auckland suburb by her daughter and son-in-law on Friday evening, after a violent attack police described as an "utterly appalling assault".
Police say the arrest will bring "some relief" to the greater Te Atatu community, who held a public candlelit vigil in her memory last night.
The man will appear in the Waitakere District Court tomorrow morning.
