A member of the public has leapt at a man accused of a fatal Auckland stabbing before being restrained by court security.

The woman nearly reached Dustin La Mont in the High Court at Auckland this morning, swearing at him before security guards reached her.

The 25-year-old, whose name suppression lapsed, is accused of murdering 24-year Nathan Matai Pukeroa of Whangarei in Mt Albert the early hours of December 3.

The incident prompted a warning from Justice Susan Thomas.

"Emotions are running high, people will please restrain themselves or they will be removed from the court."

La Mont is also charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to Mr Pukeroa's friend, who was seriously injured in the same alleged attacked.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges and a trial has been set for October 23.
