Oliver, Olivia top NZ baby names for 2015

The Department of Internal affairs (DIA) has released a list of the top 100 baby names for 2015, with Olivia and Oliver taking out the top spots.

Oliver has been the most popular name in New Zealand for the past three years, while Olivia moved up one place from 2014 to take out the title.

With more than 62,500 births last year, 13,990 unique first names were registered. These names reflected family heritage, personal choice and the influence of popular culture.

The names Jack and Jacob both ended up retaining their spot within the top 10 and Charlie had the largest increase within the boys names, shooting up seven places to 8th.

Names with decreasing popularity were Liam and Isla, which both dropped four places.

The full top 100 lists are now available for viewing on the DIA's website.
