The runway at Nelson Airport has reopened following a light plane crash this afternoon.

The two-seater plane made a hard landing at around 1:30pm today. The only passenger, a pilot in training, was uninjured.

Chief executive of Nelson Airport Rob Evans confirmed the runway was closed, delaying flights in and out of the airport.

The plane landed nose down beside the runway.

The wreckage is being moved and the Civil Aviation Authority will investigate.
