A woman was shocked to see a man's body lying on the ground in a pool blood in the Auckland Domain early this morning.
Police say the man was found unconscious and in a critical condition at 12:45am.
"He is reported to have improved slightly," a spokesperson said. "At this stage it is unknown how the man received his injuries and police are speaking to people who were in the area."
A witness told Newshub that at the time she saw the man he was conscious, but was disoriented and not wearing shoes or a shirt.
"I was so shocked. I had to turn away," she said. "It's not something I'm used to seeing in the Domain."
Police are continuing to investigate.
