Opinion: Christchurch is ready to move on

It was a day from hell.

Memories of that awful day are still strong, sounds of sirens are hard to get out of my head. Pictures of the injured walking helplessly out of Cathedral Square still haunt me.

The Cathedral is still standing. Broken.

The square - empty except for tourists.

Five years of demolitions are at an end, 15 years of rebuilding are beginning.

I shy away from ground zero - the CBD. The city's heart is still missing. It is desperately in need of some love and CPR.

Buildings are going up but it's taking time.

Patiently we wait for progress. Hope for the future. Dream of the rebuild.

Five years on, we are ready to move on.
