Trial begins for man on serious historic charges

The jury has been chosen for the trial of a Mt Roskill man, facing 26 serious charges dating back to 1986, at the High Court in Auckland.

The man, who's in his 50s and has name suppression, has sacked his lawyer and will represent himself.

He's alleged to have committed crimes involving three people between 1986 and 2014.

The charges he faces include unlawful sexual connection, sexual violation, kidnapping, aggravated wounding, threatening to kill and assault with a weapon.

He has denied all the charges.

A jury of eight women and four men have been chosen for the trial which is expected to last four weeks.
