Taking a leaf from Trump: Building the Bombay barricades

We've mocked Donald Trump a few times on Story. It's hard not to when he says some outrageous things.

Even John Key has been having a laugh at his expense.

But perhaps we have been too quick to judge and Mr Trump has had a few ideas we could borrow – namely the wall he wants to build between the US and Mexico.

So we started thinking, could this be a solution to one of New Zealand's more pressing problems?

If anyone knows walls, it's the Chinese. Great Walls in fact and theirs has stood since 200 BC and it attracts 70,000 people daily so we thought it would be a good model to follow for our Bombay barricades.

The concept is quite simple; a great wall to keep the Auckland orcs from north travelling south and the Hamilton hordes from the south travelling north.

But how much would that cost?

Unfortunately it won't be cheap. It would be one of New Zealand's biggest ever construction projects having to stand at least 10 feet high to achieve its security purpose and stretch for around seventy kilometres from coast to coast.

Construction experts tell us that the build alone would be in the vicinity of 100 million dollars.

Throw in other costs such as security which could be privatised to outfits such as the Storm Troopers the cost could be out of this world -- something north of a quarter of a billion dollars.
