Timaru: A city of champions

There are a few things you might not know about Timaru.

It's the home to the oldest athletics club in the country and it's not just old, but successful too.

Among other champions, Commonwealth Games medallist Tom Walsh was coached at the club from the age of 15.

World champion boxer Bob Fitzsimons grew up here and New Zealand's first athletics gold medallist Jack Lovelock went to the local high school.

Even Phar Lap was born here back in 1926.

The athletics club started back in 1971 and Story went to meet a man who is keeping the tradition of champions alive and well.
