A seven-year-old boy is in a serious condition after being attacked by a pit bull terrier in the south Auckland suburb of Takanini this afternoon.
St John and Animal Management were called out to Matawalu Pl at 1:22pm.
The boy was the dog owner's nephew.
He has been treated and transported to Middlemore Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery.
"The pit bull terrier has been relinquished to us, and is currently in a shelter," says Animal Management's Geoff Keber.
"Animal Management has taken statements from the parties involved, and our investigation is ongoing."
