Armed guards are policing a street in the Auckland suburb of New Windsor after a shooting this afternoon.
Police say they are investigating the incident on Rosamund Ave in which a person was shot in the legs with a handgun at around 2:30pm.
The victim has been taken to hospital.
The scene is cordoned off and will remain under guard overnight.
"Police want to reassure the public that there is no immediate danger to their safety," says Detective Sergeant Richard Sami.
Newshub reporter Grace Cocker was there as the incident unfolded.
"We saw a man jump a fence, thought really nothing of it, until we noticed he was wearing a home detention, or some kind of ankle bracelet," she says.
Ms Cocker says she got on the phone to police after she noticed a woman chasing the man.
"We were then asked to keep follow, so we did. Before we knew it he took chase down Rosamund Ave and he started saying he had been shot."
