Police are trying to trace the last movements of a man found dead in a partially-submerged car near Hamilton.
Kyle Jason Sutherland, 26, was found dead in his car in a small stream on Matangi Rd this morning.
He appeared to have lost control and crashed into the stream overnight.
Police say Mr Sutherland was last seen at about 7.15pm last night, when he was visiting a relative.
He told them he was going to visit a friend in Matangi and possibly go to the supermarket.
He appeared to be heading west on Matangi Rd when the crash occurred, police say.
Police are appealing for sightings of Mr Sutherland's red Chevrolet Blazer, which had a blue driver door.
The partially-submerged vehicle which had plunged 20m into a Waikato river was recovered earlier today, along with the body of its driver.
Road policing manager, Inspector Freda Grace told Newshub the vehicle, which was found on Matangi Rd early this morning by a woman walking her dog, will now be utilised in the ongoing investigation.
"We will be working on our inquiry trying to work out what happened and also the timeline around it," says Inspector Grace.
Overhanging powerlines and fallen branches made it difficult for the car to be retrieved from the water and as a result, a policewoman dislocated her shoulder.
