A motorcyclist killed in the Waikato this morning was facing numerous sexual abuse charges.

64-year-old Garry John Jones died after striking the back of a logging truck on State Highway 1 near Rangiriri.

Charges against him included rape, abduction for sex, and indecent assault on girls aged between 5 and 16.

The former body builder and Mr New Zealand allegedly committed the offences in the 1970s and 80s in the eastern Bay of Plenty.

Jones is also accused of abusing victims at a gym he owned on Peace Street in Whakatane.

Police say they're still investigating the crash, and are seeking witnesses.
