Two people have died after a serious car accident in rural Canterbury last night.
Five others were injured when two cars collided at the intersection of State Highway 8 and McGaughtries Rd in Twizel.
Two people were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries and another two were airlifted to Christchurch Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
One person with minor to moderate injuries has been driven to Timaru Hospital by ambulance.
A Serious Crash Investigator has been called in from Dunedin to examine the scene.
