A woman accused of defrauding SkyCity Hamilton of more than $2 million has pleaded not guilty.

Tessa Fiona Grant, 40, appeared in the Hamilton District Court this morning over the alleged misappropriation of $2.56 million from the casino group.

The 49 charges relate to alleged offending between 2008 and 2012, police say.

Grant worked for SkyCity Hamilton from 2006 to 2014, initially as finance executive before being promoted to general manager.

Investigators looked back at the accounts after Grant pleaded guilty in a separate case of defrauding Waikato's Diocesan school for girls of $800,000.

It is alleged she spent the millions on a lavish equestrian stud she has made her home.

SkyCity had earlier launched a civil action against Grant in the High Court at Auckland seeking to recover $1.26 million.

It was her first appearance. She was granted continued bail until June 2 for her next appearance.
