Organisers of the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival are hoping bad weather blows through because the annual event is sold-out.
The entertainment gets under way at 11am today with the traditional piping in of the oyster, the ode and official welcome.
This year Air New Zealand is putting on a special flight from Auckland and the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association is predicting more than 50 campervans will turn up due to its promotion of the annual event.
"Let's hope this crap weather blows through and today the weather gods are on our side," organiser say on the event's Facebook page.
The oyster opening competitions start at 12.30pm followed by the oyster eating competitions.
