Auckland CBD's business association says a stronger police presence in the area would help deter violent criminals.

A Newshub investigation has revealed Auckland neighbourhoods dominate a leaderboard of the most violent city hot spots in the country.

Auckland Central West has topped the list of the most violent city areas, with 550 assaults last year.

But Heart of the City chief executive Vic Beck says more cops would make a difference.

"More and more people want to come here, we've got a strong international reputation, we have to preserve that. In terms of immediate difference, stronger policing would make a difference," she says.
