Wellington's Mount Victoria Tunnel is getting another makeover after commuters complained its new colour scheme was less than flattering.
The tunnel was repainted five months ago as part of a wider safety overhaul that started last year.
But NZTA now says it's swapping to a new custom paint job after complaints.
"What we found was the light green colour, combined with the new LED lighting, highlighted the rough wall surface of the 84-year-old tunnel and stains from water seepage," Wellington highways Manager Neil Walker said.
"We've also received negative comments from the public about the look of the walls. We've decided to use a more muted colour."
The new custom shade, called Mount Victoria Robin's Egg Blue, is a retro blue-green in keeping with the tunnel's 1930s design and will be applied from this weekend.
The major safety overhaul of the tunnel stared in April 2015 and will be officially completed with a public night in June.
