WINZ killer to be sentenced

The man who shot and killed two Work and Income workers in Ashburton is set to learn his fate.

Russell John Tully is due to be sentenced in the High Court at Christchurch tomorrow for the murders of Peggy Turuhira Noble and Susan Leigh Cleveland in September 2014.

Following a two-week trial earlier this year, he was also found guilty of attempting to murder one other staff member, Kim Adams, as well as unlawful possession of firearms.

He was found not guilty of attempting to murder Lindy Curtis or setting a man-trap -- a steel wire strung between two trees -- on the banks of the Ashburton River.

The homeless 49-year-old, who had a grievance against Work and Income, represented himself and was largely absent from the hearing.
