Woman charged after Wellington death

The 37-year-old woman who has been charged with murder this morning in Wellington knew the victim, police say.

The woman appeared in the Wellington District Court this morning, after another 37-year-old woman's body was found inside a Strathmore Park address around 7:30pm last night by emergency services.

"They were known to each other, however we don't believe it's a family violence incident at all," says Warwick McKee, Detective Senior Sergeant officer in charge of the Wellington District CIB.

Police say it was an "isolated incident".

"We want to reassure the community we're not looking for anybody else in regards to this incident," says Sgt McKee.

The accused woman has a child, who police say is currently with family.

"We continue to provide support and welfare for the family of both the victim and alleged accuser at this time," says Sgt McKee.

Police are continuing with the scene examination at the Tannadyce St address, and this is expected to continue over the weekend. They are working to notify the family of the woman who died.

Sgt McKee says no other people were involved.
