Former All Black Byron Kelleher has been arrested in Toulouse, France for "destruction and domestic violence", according to reports.

The 39-year-old was intoxicated and picked up by police off the street, reports newspaper L'Equipe.

He is said to have vandalised a door and attacked a female companion, who reportedly refused to complain to police "for fear of reprisals".

The former halfback moved to Toulouse in 2007 and played rugby until 2011. Since then he has been running rugby-themed bar Haka Corner.

Kelleher has a history of alcohol-related trouble with the law in France -- in 2009 he was involved in a violent altercation following a crash while drink driving, and has twice been charged with drink driving.
