Charges laid over Fox Glacier heli crash

Two people have been charged over last year's fatal Fox Glacier helicopter crash.

Alpine Adventure's Squirrel helicopter crashed into a crevassed area of the 13km-long Fox Glacier on November 21, killing six tourists and 28-year-old Kiwi pilot Mitch Gamerman.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) suspended the company's licence last week.

Managing director James Scott and the company's quality assurance manager Barry Waterland are facing health and safety charges.

The CAA confirmed the charges and says it will not make further comment until the matter is concluded.

The inquiry into the crash is ongoing and expected to be completed no earlier than May 2017.
