The largest cruise ship to ever sail New Zealand waters will make its maiden voyage here in December.
The Royal Caribbean's Ovation is a behemoth. The ship is longer than the Skytower is tall, weighs 168,000 tonnes and is the fourth-equal largest cruise ship in the world. It's so big it can't fit in Auckland's cruise terminal and has to anchor in the harbour, ferrying passengers ashore.
A changing demographic of cruise-goers means it's no longer just older people buying a ticket to the open seas. These days it's younger people and their families. This mega-liner caters to that younger demographic, with bumper cars, a skydiving simulator, a roller rink and a pool.
