Cruising together: All aboard the biggest ocean liner to sail NZ waters

The largest cruise ship to ever sail New Zealand waters will make its maiden voyage here in December.

The Royal Caribbean's Ovation is a behemoth. The ship is longer than the Skytower is tall, weighs 168,000 tonnes and is the fourth-equal largest cruise ship in the world. It's so big it can't fit in Auckland's cruise terminal and has to anchor in the harbour, ferrying passengers ashore.

A changing demographic of cruise-goers means it's no longer just older people buying a ticket to the open seas. These days it's younger people and their families. This mega-liner caters to that younger demographic, with bumper cars, a skydiving simulator, a roller rink and a pool.
