Underwater footage of a fishing vessel which sunk off the Canterbury Coast last year has been released to Newshub by the Transport Accident Investigation Commission.

The crew of the FV Jubilee issued a distress call near the Rakaia River mouth on October 18 last year, but when a rescue helicopter arrived there was no sign of the vessel or her crew.

The wreck was found several days later in 40 metres of water and the bodies of Terry Donald Booth, Paul Russell Bennett and Jared Reese Husband were recovered.

In April, attempts were made to raise the 16-metre long vessel but were unsuccessful, so divers equipped with cameras captured footage of the vessel to help the TAIC figure out what caused the boat to sink.
