Lotto New Zealand has revealed what it believes to be the 'luckiest' Powerball – number three.
Statistically, each of the 10 Powerballs has the same chance of being picked at each draw.
But number three has racked up more wins than any of the other nine numbers, delivering a windfall to 22 Kiwis.
It certainly proved lucky for the winners of last year’s largest Powerball, a family from Rotorua who walked away with $24 million.
Number eight comes in at second place with 20 wins, followed by number two with three wins.
Number 10 lags behind, delivering only six wins.
Coincidentally (or not?) the number three is considered lucky in Chinese culture because in Cantonese it sounds like the word "alive".
The number four is unlucky because it sounds like the word "death" – but that didn't stop Powerball number four from delivering the largest-ever prize of $33 million.
