Is New Zealand too vulnerable to an invasion?
Over the next seven weeks, 1100 New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) personnel, or 12 percent of regulars, are either on operations or overseas exercises.
The NZDF says the number is the highest since 2012.
Personnel are sent on exercises so they can be tested and are always ready for potential future deployments, from humanitarian assistance missions through to high tempo operations, says Major General Tim Gall.
"These engagements also help strengthen our defence partnerships and enhance our ability to work alongside other militaries, enabling us to work together more effectively when we go on actual operations."
