The search resumes today for a Canadian man who's missing on a popular cycling track north of Wellington.

A farmer spotted Timo Aason's red Suzuki Swift parked near the Rimutaka Incline Track earlier in the week and a search was mounted for the 48-year-old.

Acting Sergeant Tony Matheson says it's an unusual area to be searching.

"It's not the sort of place that lends itself to people getting lost."

So far there have been no sightings of Mr Aason, but searchers are expected to widen the area they've been looking at today.

"We're going to be targeting another area that we haven't targeted yet. We have sort of prioritised what we believe are the most important areas at this stage and we haven’t come up with a result."

Trampers who have walked the track over the last week are being urged to contact police with any information they may have on (04) 381 2000.
