A man who slashed a woman with a ceremonial sword in Hamilton has been jailed for seven years.
South Auckland man Manjit Singh, 47, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent over the attack on a 50-year-old woman at her Fairview Downs home in November.
The incident, during which police said Singh also carried a handgun, left her seriously hurt and in need of surgery.
Singh appeared in the High Court at Hamilton on Thursday morning where he was sentenced to seven years' jail, with a minimum non-parole period of three-and-a-half years.
The attack prompted an investigation by the Ministry of Health into the Mason Clinic, where Singh had been a patient at the time.
