Police are trying to find a man who is said to have attempted to abduct a child off the street in a Wellington suburb on Monday.
The eight-year-old child was walking along Awarua St from Ottawa Rd in Ngaio around 3:05pm where a man in a black car approached from the front.
The male driver reached over and grabbed the child from the passenger door. He tried to pull them into the vehicle, however, the child managed to break free.
The child then ran toward the train station with the man following behind, however, he stopped at the overbridge and went back to his car.
Police have described the man as Caucasian with a long, white beard, bald and "old-looking".
