Police investigating series of Invercargill fires

Three small fires lit in Invercargill's historic Queens Park in the last week are under coming under close scrutiny from police.

The first fire was ignited by a fence adjacent to a playground just before 3am last Friday, with two other blazes lit among pine trees bordering on Southland Boys High School.

The latter two incidents saw pine needles ignited along the north track at the back end of the school on Sunday at approximately 10:10am, and on Monday at about 6:15pm.

Queens Park, established in 1856, is one of the main tourist attractions in Invercargill.

Those with information on any of the fires have been urged to call Invercargill Police on (03) 211 0400, or to anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
