'Buster' gets Auckland dog owners to register their pets

Auckland Council has launched a spoof video featuring an Auckland dog appealing to dog owners to complete their registration papers for the coming year.

Earlybird registration rates ended on Monday, but Auckland Council says there is still time to complete registration at the full rate.

The video features dog campaigner "Busterfarious Sneed", also known as Buster, on a mission for his 2016/17 blue registration tag - a "must-have" accessory in the park this season.

"I need that tag!" says Buster.

"The video highlights how dogs rely on their owners to take care of them, which includes registration, microchipping and de-sexing," says Animal Management's Geoff Keber.

Mr Keber says he produced a video instead of writing an article because "dogs can't read".

Around 10,000 dogs are registered in Auckland every year. More information can be found on the Auckland Council website.
