Greymouth's longest-serving councillor stands again at 76

In a few weeks, we will be getting our voting papers in the mail for the local body elections and in some towns and cities, the hoardings are already up.

But you won't see Doug Truman's face on a billboard anytime soon.

He's New Zealand's longest-serving councillor and thinks everyone in town should know who he is by now.

Mr Truman first stood for council, successfully, 48 years ago in 1968 and every three years since, the people of Greymouth have voted him back on for another term.

He's not on billboards and he's not on social media but this year, the 76-year-old faces competition.
