Handy invention: Kiwi student develops brain-controlled prosthetic hand

Duncan Garner has put a young Kiwi engineer’s breakthrough invention to the test live on Story.

Mahonri Owen, 27, is developing a brain-controlled prosthetic hand which can perform basic functions. The PHD student has just been awarded this year's Rose Hellaby Postgraduate Maori Scholarship.

For those who may lose their hand through illness or injury, the technology could change their lives.

Mr Owen may be a student but now he can add inventor to his resume.
