An Invercargill man was abducted by two others and assaulted in the early hours of Monday morning,

An Invercargill man had to walk to a nearby house for help after allegedly being abducted and assaulted in the early hours of Monday morning police say.

Police were told at 12:05am after two men assaulted the man at his home in Heidelberg, before leaving and then returning a short time later. The pair forced the victim into a car and drove off, demanding money and then dumping him near Tisbury.

The man walked 15 minutes to the nearest property to call for help.

He's been taken hospital with moderate injuries, a police spokesperson says, while they're following "strong lines of inquiry".
