A man has died after being hit by a train near Auckland's Penrose station.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman says medical staff arrived at 3.40pm, but the man had already died.
The man was hit at the level crossing on Maurice Road, and it is understood the man was trying to cross the tracks before the oncoming train passed.
The level crossing is between the Penrose station and Mt Smart stadium, where the Warriors are playing the Wests Tigers.
Train services between Penrose and Onehunga have been suspended and will be replaced by busses.
However trains between Britomart and Penrose are running to schedule.
