Police appeal for Christchurch attacker

Police are appealing to the public to help find a man who attacked a woman in Ilam Fields near the University of Canterbury.

The woman was attacked in the early hours of Friday, July 22. She was walking by herself through the Ilam Fields towards Waimairi Road when she was grabbed by a man and pulled to the ground.

"Police are looking for a man about 196cm tall, broad shouldered who was wearing long dark pants and a dark hooded top. He was also wearing a ribbed knit balaclava or beanie with eyes holes which had been cut out," Detective Sergeant Nicola Reeves says.

"We obviously would like to catch this person and would like to hear from anyone who saw a man matching this description last Friday around the area of Ilam Fields."

Anyone with information can call Christchurch Police on (03) 363 7400 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
