A 48-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a car just west of Christchurch early on Thursday morning.
Diversions are now in place after the man was hit around 6:50am on Newtons Rd in Rolleston.
Police are at the scene of the collision, and the stretch between Curraghs Rd and Lawford Rd has been cordoned off.
The man's family is being notified of his death as the serious crash unit looks into the incident.
The driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after glass from his own car struck his face.
