A number of people in Nelson and Wellington nearly spilt their Saturday morning cuppa when a 5.1-magnitude quake struck at around 10am, just north of the Marlborough Sounds.
Geonet reported a "light" quake, 80 kilometres deep, 50km north of French Pass.

People around the lower North Island and top of the South Island reported feeling the "Wellington wobble".
Further north, aftershocks have continued to shake the East Cape after a 7.1 shake that was felt right across the country.
