It will take about two hours to find this year's New Zealand chilli-eating champion.
The contenders assemble in Auckland today for 24 rounds of eating different chillis.
Last year's champion, Josh Shotter, is back to defend his title "because I can, it's fun and it's a good day out".
Last year to recover he headed out to the carpark at the event and lay on the ground to cool off, after chomping through 21 rounds of different chillies.
The menu, or types of chillies, for this year has been released.
The hottest chilli, the Carolina Reaper, is round 21. It measures at 2.2 million Scoville heat units.
The dried version is round 22.
"Might be a wildcard or two on the day but the final is pretty much full!" organisers say.
This year the competition is part of a hot sauce festival, a ticketed event with a range of activities.
