A body found in a rural bush area near Kaitaia on Thursday has been confirmed to be that of patched gang member Kimble Moore.
Specialist officers had been searching the area since Wednesday using cadaver dogs, and after a post-mortem in Auckland on Friday, they established that the body was Mr Moore's.
He was a member of the Tribesmen Motorcycle Club, and had been missing since March 17 this year. Last month, police turned their search into a homicide investigation.
Police say the investigation has been a "deeply distressing time" for Mr Moore's family, and said they hoped the recovery of his body would bring "some degree of comfort".
The focus of local police is now on finding and arresting those responsible for Mr Moore's death.
A scene examination, which has been underway since the body was discovered, is expected to come to end on Friday evening.
