A south Auckland man accused of murder over a fatal fight at an Otara home has denied the charge.
Gary Moore, 57, was found dead in his house in the early hours of July 31.
His family packed the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday, with sobs coming from the public gallery, as the lawyer for the man accused of his murder, Teina Taunga, entered a plea of not guilty.
Taunga, 29, was charged with assault following the incident, but police later upgraded the charge to murder.
A trial has been set down for May next year.
Taunga was remanded on bail, but prosecutors have asked for a hearing to challenge that later in the month.
