Police investigating the disappearance of a Levin gang associate almost six months ago are appealing for information about three cars.
Police says he was picked up at his home in Gardener St by a person driving a silver and grey 1994 Mercedes Benz 320 saloon with large chrome wheels.
The two went to a garage in Levin and that was the last confirmed sighting of Mr MacDonald.
Detective Sergeant Paul Baskett says police believe the pair travelled on to a Hokio Beach house that Mr MacDonald visited often.
On March 26, the day police announced its investigation, the house was burnt down in what police believe was an attempt to hide evidence.
Mr Baskett says detectives are also interested in a silver 2003 Mazda Atenza station wagon, registration FAY239, which was found burnt in a lay-by north of Shannon.
Before the car could be taken away by tow truck, someone removed it.
The third vehicle of interest is a red Holden Commodore that became stuck on Waitarere Beach around noon on the day Mr MacDonald was last seen.
Mr Baskett said that after being helped to get the Holden out of the sand a young man and woman drove it to Hokio Beach.
