Police have arrested a 55-year-old Dunedin man after a house fire in the Dunedin suburb of Concord.

Fire crews were called to the property on Mulford St at about 8pm on Saturday.

The house was extensively damaged, although no one was hurt.

Southern fire service shift commander Andrew Norris said it was clear the blaze was out of the ordinary because fire crews had "requested police and a fire investigator, which indicates they believe there was something suspicious".

The man has been charged with arson, and will be appearing in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the matter.

A scene examination by police and Fire Investigation Services is being carried out on Sunday.
