Gisborne's mayor says he's been left heartbroken by a massive blaze that destroyed a local business.
Firefighters needed chainsaws to get to the large fire which broke out just after 6pm on Wednesday night.
Eleven crews of fire fighters fought until 3:30am on Thursday morning to get the fire at Weatherell Transport on Halbert Rd under control.
Mayor Meng Foon raced to the scene and says it's a huge blow to the community.
"It's very sad for us as a community and for the Weatherells, hardworking people and they built this business up. And also for the workers, for people that have actually got goods in the shed."
Mr Foon live-streamed the blaze on Facebook.
He says the Gisborne District Council will do all it can to help the company.
