Homicide investigation launched after Whangarei death

A homicide investigation has been launched after the death of a 37-year-old man in Whangarei.

The man was dropped at the Whangarei St John Ambulance station on Tuesday morning in a critical condition and died shortly after.

Police were called to the station at around 6:40am.

They have identified two addresses of interest in central Whangarei and north of Whangarei. Officers are carrying out scene examinations at both addresses, as well as at the Whangarei St John Ambulance Station.

"Police are still working to establish the circumstances surrounding this man's death," says Detective Inspector Kevin Burke.

"We are asking any members of the public who may have witnesses a group of men gathered in the Whangarei or Kamo areas in the early hours of this morning to contact Whangarei police."

Police are working on identifying the man and a post-mortem will be carried out on Wednesday.
