A young tramper has been airlifted from the Nelson Lakes National Park on Monday after she injured herself while tramping in the area.

The 13-year-old Palmerston North girl was with her family in the park when she injured her foot at Upper Travers Hut late Sunday afternoon.

A family member tramped back out to St Arnaud village on Monday to raise the alarm.

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter flew to her aid and airlifted her to Nelson hospital's emergency department for further care.
