Living and laughing with OCD

You often hear someone is 'OCD' because they like a clean house or things in a particular way.

But for those who actually live with obsessive compulsive disorder it can be frustrating and debilitating.

Story met comedians Kade Nightengale and Jeremy Rolston who can laugh about their OCD but it can be all-consuming.

Simply eating lunch at a popular Auckland food court can make them feel distinctly uncomfortable because hygiene grades are not high enough and they won't feel right until they wash their hands like surgeons – four times with four separate squirts of soap each time.

This is the side of OCD most people know about but the anxiety disorder is much more complex.

There is no cure for OCD and the cause is not known but it can be managed with medication and therapy.

Story investigates the disorder which affects more than 100,000 Kiwis and for some, it can take over their lives.
