Pie and beer diet: The final week with NZ's best pies

The diet has been painfully simple -- nothing but pies and beer for one month and keeping below a certain calorie limit.

It would be logical to assume it would end in nothing but tears, but so far, it has only been a steady weight loss and steady improvement in health.

It was mentally tough but half-way through the diet, fitness levels were above average.

For the final week, Story asked where the best pies in New Zealand we were overwhelmed with the responses.

It turned out, Fairlie Bakehouse was hugely popular. So popular in fact, the shop has had to undergo a massive extension.

Some drive the two-and-a-half hours out of Christchurch just to get their hands on one of Frank Leiber's pies.

"Yesterday we had, for five to six hours, non-stop queues and we sold 1600 pies just in the shop," says Mr Leiber.

The mastermind behind the shop says fresh ingredients are the secret and it's always been his motto.

But after four straight weeks of only pies and beer, what is the final result? How much weight has been lost? And what do the insides of the body look like now?
