Wannabe gang member turns his life around with help from stranger

For children whose parents get sent to jail - it's a life sentence that is all too common.

If a parent is in prison, it makes a child seven times more likely to end up behind bars as well. That's unless something remarkable happens like in this story.

It's an inspiring one about a young South Auckland boy who was a wannabe gang member, trouble maker who hated not seeing his father and would always feel let down and angry. It made him lash out and cause trouble.

But his mother then reached out to Pillars, an organisation who work with children of prisoners and it was here he met a stranger who turned his life around.

An Indian fine-wine maker was partnered up with Darryn who credits the businessman as being a big part of the reason he wanted to make changes in his life.
