Zac Guildford: Finally happy and back in control

He is one of New Zealand's most talented and most troubled rugby players.

Zac Guildford was once an All Blacks star. Five years ago, he was living the rugby dream - earning big money and playing before thousands of adoring fans.

But his addictions and self-destructive behaviour surfaced at 22 years old and he lost everything.

A month after winning the 2011 Rugby World Cup, he went to Rarotonga where he got blind drunk and naked, punched two strangers in a bar and spent a night in the police cells. He still doesn't remember much.

"Drugs, gambling, drinking - that's everything I've battled with. Obviously in the media and public it's only been about the drinking, but there has been a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that people don't know and other things I've had to deal with."

He battled to keep his addictions under control, which ultimately ruled his personal and professional life.

But five years on, he has made changes and his life is very different to what it was five years ago. He is finally happy and settled and back playing his best rugby.
